Certificate in Relaxation Massage
The Certificate in Relaxation Massage is ideal for those wanting to start a career as a Relaxation Massage professional and leads on to further study in the Diploma in Therapeutic Massage. Relaxation Massage is a fast growing and respected field, working not just with physical tension, but helping clients to ease stress, anxiety, emotional tension and depression.
Course Outline
This course provides core knowledge and skills in Relaxation Massage. It is based on Swedish massage techniques.
Subjects studied include:
- Structural and functional organisation of the body
- Core knowledge of the cardiovascular, lymphatic, integumentary and musculoskeletal systems of the body
- Physical examination
- Client case taking
- Swedish massage techniques
- Preparation for massage practice
- Zone therapy
- First Aid - this is not included in your fees. It is the responsibility of the student to undertake a First Aid course to complete the Certificate in Relaxation Massage.
This is a 15 week full time course or 30 weeks part time course. Students are required to give evidence of thirty hours practical work to complete the course. For details see the portfolio of evidence below.
Workshop and Exam Requirements
Workshops are a compulsory and essential part of the diploma training offering students the opportunity to expand and develop their skills, network with fellow naturopathic students and benefit from the knowledge of our tutors. The workshops are very interactive with lots of practical skills both taught.
You are required to attend a three day compulsory workshop. At this time the practical assessments will be made. To view the workshop timetable see the enrolment section.
Portfolio of Evidence
This is a practical component required to complete the Certificate in Relaxation Massage. At the completion of your course you are required to produce evidence of 30 hours of practical work. This does not include your 30 hours per week of study or your attendance at the workshop.
Entry Criteria
Applicants must have completed Year 11 or equivalent secondary school education, must be at least aged 18 and be able to read, speak and comprehend English language (for international non-English speaking applicants: at level 6.5 IELTS).

Certificate in Anatomy and Physiology
This course provides a fascinating introduction into human anatomy and physiology, the structure and function of the body, and how these are closely intertwined. Anatomy and physiology are foundational subjects that underpin our understanding of the health and wellbeing of the human body.
Course Outline
Graduates of this qualification cover the 20 core health unit standards required as a prerequisite for continuing on to study Diploma level courses provided by NCNZ and other educational institutions. Included in this certificate are the 150 hours of study required by most Associations for membership eligibility.
Subjects studied include:
- Structural and functional organisation of the body
- Cells and tissues
- Principles of chemistry in the human body
- Human metabolism
- The special senses
- Blood composition
- An overview of the cardiovascular, lymphatic, integumentary, musculoskeletal, respiratory, reproductive, nervous, endocrine, immune, digestive, and urinary systems of the body.
This is a 15 week full time course or 30 weeks part time.

There is no exam or workshop associated with this paper. This course can be completed entirely via distance learning. You will be provided with a comprehensive set of study notes and be required to submit assessments for each module.

Certificate in Human Nutrition
Please note this course is currently unavailable. The course is undergoing redevelopment into a Diploma of Nutrition, which will be offered for the first time in 2010. If you are interested in the Diploma please contact the College to be placed in the Expressions of Interest database. You will then be notified when the course is available.
Good food serves as essential fuel for our wellbeing. The foods we choose to eat each day either support our body to maintain good health, or can contribute towards the creation of disease. Our mood, energy, and immune strength are all aspects of health that require particular nutrients in order to function optimally. There is increasing recognition and evidence of the importance of nutrition in both preventing and treating health conditions, and as such nutrition is a core aspect of many therapeutic modalities such as Naturopathy, Chinese Medicine and Ayurveda. With an up to date understanding of nutrition, students will be empowered to select those foods that best serve their health and satisfy their taste buds.
Course Outline
This course provides a solid foundation in nutrition from a holistic perspective, including the effects of modern day influences such as chemical toxicity, damaged fats and additives in food. Different modern and traditional approaches to nutrition will be covered.
On completion of this course, students will have the skills and knowledge to use nutrition to maintain their own health and that of their family and friends. This course can be cross credited to the Diploma in Naturopathy course.

Certificate in Flower Essence Therapy
Flower essences are a universally recognised healing modality that was originally developed by Dr. Edward Bach in the UK in the 1930's. Since this time the modality has blossomed into a comprehensive and dynamic healing art, contributing to the wellbeing of people the world over.
Essences are prepared from a sun infusion of plant blossoms, but may also include formulations from gemstones, crystals, trees, seeds and ferns. Each preparation embodies the distinct imprint or energetic pattern of the original plant and carries a vibrational resonance that works through the various human energy fields. This awakens particular qualities within the human soul, which in turn influence mental, emotional and physical wellbeing.
Course Outline
The Certificate in Flower Essence Therapy is a personal interest course that will familiarise participants with the many different features and philosophies of various flower essences, with particular focus on New Zealand First Light Essences. The course is ideal for anyone with a personal interest in flower essences and their practical application in achieving natural ways to enhance health and wellbeing. It can also be undertaken as professional development for health care practitioners.

National Certificate in Complementary Therapies
For many students, a long interest in Complementary Therapies has led them to take a number of introductory and short courses in topics such as nutrition, herbs, homeobotanicals, and flower essences. These courses provide knowledge and skills to manage personal and family healthcare. In order to take it to the next level an understanding of the ethical, regulatory and management aspects of clinical practice is required. The National Certificate in Complementary Therapies bridges this gap, teaching you the clinical skills you need to apply your knowledge in a professional setting.
Course Outline
This course provides core knowledge and skills for professional clinical practice in complementary therapies and is often a pre-requisite for other Diploma's and Certificate courses.

- Client and practitioner safety

Certificate in Homeobotanical Therapies
Developed around 25 years ago, Homeobotanicals are a fusion of herbal and homeopathic practices, creating a synergy between physical and energetic healing. They have wide reaching effects throughout the body and are an extremely safe, practical, inexpensive and effective tool for practitioners. The extensive range of remedies includes those made with NZ native herbs, and provide a wonderful way for therapists to utilise our native plants.
Course Outline
This advanced National Certificate course provides core knowledge and skills in Homeobotanical therapy.

- Principles and traditions in clinical practice
- Application of Homeobotanicals in clinical practice.
- Homeobotanical Repertory and Materia Medica in clinical practice

However it is highly recommended that you have studied Year One of the Diploma in Naturopathy or the National Certificate in Complementary Therapies before completing the course.
